Muscle size bags are a popular packaging solution for large quantities of device such as aggregates and waste. They have many names as well as, Tonne bags, Dumpy bags, FIBC’s, Builders bags
To select from of sizes and specifications of Bulk bags will be vast and each type will suit a different use. The exact specifications can also be quite detailed and technical which can from time to time make it difficult to determine what type will be needed for the required make use of.
When deciding on the right type of FIBC, the following points should be thought about;
– Physical properties or chemical properties of the planned product to go inside the bulk bag, such as:
• Demanded volume
• Weight of product to be contained
• Bulk density
• Contents flow characteristics
• Penetration of aeration
• Particle shape and size
• Fill temperature
• Whether food grade is required
– The filling, management, transporting, storing and emptying methods of the FIBC.
Discover below for a full rundown of terms for this favorite packaging solution and their meaning. This will help to make informed conclusions about the type of bag needed.
Class regarding IBC = Single trip, standard duty reusable or perhaps heavy duty reusable.
Safe working load (SWL) = it is the capacity of the bag and relates to the maximum weight or maybe volume of product that the bulk bag can hold safely. It will certainly usually be shown in kilograms and ranges out of 250kg – 2000kg
Size = This will usually often be shown in external dimensions and in centimetres.
Safety point = Standard tonne bags will have a safety factor involving 5: 1, meaning a 1000kg capacity bag will be guaranteed not to break, rip or tear with a body weight of less than 5000kg. A safety factor of 6: you, is a bulk bag made out of thicker woven polypropylene body system fabric and tested to a higher standard and is usually an important duty or multi trip FIBC.
Filling and disconnection with features
Plain base – This is a Standard flat starting on the bottom of the bulk bag which makes it cuboid in shape. Most of standard builders bags will come with a plain base.
Pushing loops – Strong loops sewn into each place of the bag which allows it to be picked up and manoeuvred by a fork lift truck. All FIBCs will come by using 4 lifting loops.
Filling inlet – There are two sorts of filling inlets. They are;
Filling spout – An extensive tube which allows the contents to flow into the travelling bag easily
Skirt top – Additional fabric at the top of the exact bag which can be secured around the filling device to prevent any sort of loss of contents, ensuring that all the contents flow easily on the IBC.
Baffles = Additional internal baffles are sewn onto the corners of the bulk bag. This can help that will stabilise the bag and make it more rigid and tend to be specifically used for unstable or fluid products.
Discharge spout = A tube made out of woven polypropylene fabric is usually sewn onto the bottom of the bulk bag. This provides a less difficult flow of the contents out the bag when held within the hopper and the contents discharged.
Food grade = Food items grade manufacturing relates to the conditions in which the FIBC has been manufactured plus stored in before delivery to customer. These conditions are influenced by strict standards which allow the bag to be suitable for employ for foodstuffs. Food grade bulk bags usually come through an internal polythene lamination.
There are two main types of food items grade conditions;
Clean room = The manufacturing/storage conveniences are free of loose threads, dirt and dust. Usually even more suited to bird seed and animal feed
BRC compliant food grade bulk bags = manufactured and input into stringent conditions that meet the BRC standards. This helps ensure the food grade fibc is suitable to package food compounds without the risk of being contaminated.
Liners – An internal polythene liner provides added protection for the contents inside. Liner can either be:
- • Inserted loosely or tabbed
- • Cuffed, where the liner is inserted and the top sections roll over the top of the bag to make it more secure.
- • Tabbed, liner is stitched in place at the corners to ensure solidity inside the bag.
